Three series. Two genres.

Beach Life publishes practitioner-written work in two genres that almost never appear in the same catalog. They share a publisher because they share a standard: write the book that should already exist, and write it for the reader who actually needs it.

The HL7 Integration Series

by Ellison Bond

A five-book curriculum that takes readers from "what is HL7?" through fluent v2 reading, working JavaScript at the bench, production routing and operations, and FHIR. Written by a practitioner with decades in the field. Every volume centers on Beachside Regional Health, a fictional 280-bed coastal hospital whose integration team carries the lessons across the series.

Sunny's Sunny Savanna Adventures

by Sunny Acorn

Ten picture books for ages 3–5 about kindness, courage, and growing up tall. Sunny is a young giraffe with polka-dot patches and a yellow flower behind her ear. Each book gently explores one early-childhood theme through rhythmic prose, full-color illustrations, and a warm "Note for Grown-Ups" with practical tools you can use at home.

The DICOM Series

by Ellison Bond

A planned companion curriculum on DICOM and medical imaging integration — the standard that moves radiology studies between modality, PACS, viewer, and report. Structured to slot beside the HL7 series so a working integration engineer can read across both. Outline and table of contents in development; details and timeline to follow.

A small press with a wide door.

Beach Life Publishing was founded on the unfashionable belief that the right book, written by the right person, for the right reader, still matters — whether that reader is fluent in HL7 v2.4 or learning to recognize their feelings.

We publish in two genres almost no other house puts together: practitioner reference books for healthcare integration engineers, and gentle picture books for preschoolers. The pairing is intentional. Both genres ask the same question of an author — do you actually know this reader, and can you write to them without condescension? — and most catalogs answer that question for only one of them.

Our technical books are written by working practitioners. Ellison Bond has spent decades inside hospital integration teams, EHR rollouts, vendor implementations, and the on-call rotations that run underneath all of it. The HL7 Integration Series is the curriculum he wished he could have handed every new engineer who joined his team. A planned DICOM series will extend that work into medical imaging.

Our picture books are written by Sunny Acorn for the audience that is hardest to write well for: children between three and five, and the grown-ups reading aloud to them. Sunny's Sunny Savanna Adventures takes one early-childhood theme per book — friendship, perseverance, sharing, bedtime, courage — and treats it with rhythm, warmth, and the trust that small readers can handle a real feeling if you give them the words for it.

We are independent. We are small. We are based in coastal Florida, which shows up in the work in ways large and small — in the case-study hospital that anchors the HL7 books, in the sunny savanna Sunny calls home, and in the editorial pace of a publisher who has never had to justify a book to a marketing department.
